Using sky stream and a different location

Would my sky stream work at a different address ? My 83 year old mum currently has sky q which she has had for 7 years.

she is partialy sighted and only watches about four  channels. However her subscription is nearly £60 per month & sky say they can reduce it to £50 if she re-contracts. As she doesnt record anything . I wanted to see if stream would be better for her. Has anyone tried the box at a different location?

thanks

@RC2023  using hardware and subscription services at an address other than that registered on your sky account is a breach of contract and could incur monthly additional location charges

Even just for a few hours? It's literally just to see if she can use. I'm not planning on leaving it at her home.

Re: Using sky stream and a different location

I'm interested to know the 4 channels your mother watches? If they're all available on terestrial TV then maybe she would be better to scrap the subscription TV alltogether?

Re: Using sky stream and a different location

They are fta channels , but she relies on the voice control on the remote because she cant see the numbers to change channels. If freesats remote had voice control we would move to freesat.

Freesat, almost by definition, doesn't have the income stream required to maintain the server infrastructure to support that.

Realistically the approaching end of satellite television makes any future widening of functionality very unlikely.

An Apple TV 4K box has very effective voice control. I can say "play BBC1" or "play ITV1" into the Siri remote and it will automatically start playing the live stream of that particular channel from the iPlayer or ITVX app. Doesn't cost anything, other than the cost of the box itself of course, and no subscription is necessary. You can also say the name of the programme you want to play on demand too and it'll load it up. My 79 year old mother now uses one and loves it.

But I really shouldn't be promoting other services... that's naughty. Sky Stream's great!

Re: Using sky stream and a different location

After speaking to 3 different people at sky an advisor told me about "sky tv essentials" a £15 per month package that ticks all the boxes so thats alot less hassle

There is no need to use use numbers to change channels. You can use the channel up/down buttons and deactivate all the channels apart the 4 watched😉

An option to consider to remove the need to pay to watch FTA channels🙂
