Broadband Boost and Sky Stream

So, moved to Sky Stream to save money as Q prices were jumping so much.

but... Q is a wifi extender and the layout of our house is quite a large footprint. So stream wouldn't work in bedroom and office was low signal.

Turned a Q mini back on and it was fine, spoke to Sky they sent a booster to replace the Q mini.

great, but I cannot get it to connect, press the two WPS buttons but no joy. Sky support couldn't detect and error so assumed the booster was faulty, they sent another one and same happening. Frankly I wasn't to throw the thing through a window and go buy my own booster... but I think Sky should be able to sort this out.

am I doing anything stupid? Measures already taken:

- off and on (router and booster)

- reset (router and booster)

- replaced booster

- placed booster closer to the router circa 3 m

Booster needs to be closer, ideally within a foot when using the wps pair, try that.

Cheers Jim, still no joy.

no where near as easy and when I used Deco with a BT hub....

What is the model of your router ie SR203 upright black color, and booster ie SE210 white color and upright like the router.

Press wps on router, watch led flash, press wps on booster and let them pair, takes about 1 minute or more for them to sort each other out, after all 3 led's light on booster.

Re: Broadband Boost and Sky Stream

It's the stand up black router and white booster as you say, both WPS flashing orange but never connect always only have 2 green lights on the booster, never red or orange to show any error just off - same with previous and this one.

Press the reset button only on the booster for 30seconds, it is located on the back panel near the Ethernet jack if the booster has one, new model does not.

Then re-pair via wps side of each unit.

The fact that you have left and right green led's and not the middle looks like

the wifi has paired to the router, but the internet has not.

Let the wps on both finish, when the cycle is over both the wps router and booster led's wil go out.

Re: Broadband Boost and Sky Stream

Thanks Jim have been through all these so guessing it's yet another painful call to Sky.

They won't be getting the q mini back until this all works!!

Question, in all of your attempts, have you ever reset the router?

And when you reset the router, did you hold the button in for at least 30sec

Re: Broadband Boost and Sky Stream

Yep but will do all again too! Wondering if q mini box being on still causes an issue so tomorrow will essentially start from beginning. Reset everything and turn q off and have it close etc.

Re: Broadband Boost and Sky Stream

@IainS2023

When you reset the router, watch the front led's. one begins to flash rapid, this lets you know that the router has actually reset to the factory settings. should be a link will try to find and post.

don't remember if the booster does the same on a reset, i had to reset both mine at sky request

3 months ago, think that it re-paired on the 2nd or 3rd attempt, and i did have to move them closer

i would say that they were 2 feet apart, they would not pair in the operating positions, about 30' were

booster has allways been, no way would they pair....

Once paired up moved back to operating position no issue's.

You could be right, q mini is on and causing issue, so switch the sucker off.

Let me know how you get on, best of luck not a good time to be doing all of this....

Re: Broadband Boost and Sky Stream

@IainS2023

from the hub help below...

Reset a Sky Hub, Sky Q or Sky Broadband Hub (your hub’s black)

  1. Hold Reset on the back of your hub for about 30 seconds or until the lights on the front blink.
  2. Wait for the power, wifi and internet lights to go green again.
  3. After your hub has reset and the lights have gone back to normal, switch it off and on again at the mains. It’s to make sure you can still make and receive calls.

Good to know: This will reset all your hub's setting including your WiFi password, so if you've changed it from its default you'll need to change it again.

And from the booster help

To reset a Sky Q Booster or Sky Broadband Booster?

  1. Hold RESET on the back of your booster for ten seconds or until the power light flashes green.
  2. When the power light turns solid green, it's reset.

And final part before you throw it out the window

Connect your booster

  1. Plug the blue end of the power cable into the blue port on the back of your booster. Then plug into the mains and switch on.
  2. Wait until the power and wireless lights turn green.
  3. Hold the WPS button on your booster for 3 seconds until it flashes amber. Then hold the WPS button on your hub for 3 seconds until it flashes amber - You'll need to do it within 2 minutes.
  4. After a few minutes, the connected light will turn green. You're all set up.

Tip: Need to move your booster after you've connected, don't worry it will automatically reconnect when its moved as long as its within range of your hub.
